Stoughton House

We had the inspection today at the home we are trying to buy in Stoughton.  I took quite a few pictures while I was there with the inspector.  Warning:  try to ignore the current owner's 80's decor and imagine it with more updated, modern, stylish furnishings.

First picture is of the outside.  The house is elevated relative to the street, creating a sloped driveway which I don't particularly care for.  At some point, I would like to change the windows in the garage doors.  They look very dated.  And ugly.

There is a small porch area to the right of the front door.  Just enough for Scott and I to have two rocking chairs out there.

This is the view to the right when you walk in the front door.  (Note: This is really the time to try to ignore the 80's decor and try to envision something a tad bit more contemporary.)

Looking into the kitchen from the formal dining room.  As you can see, there is a half bath off the kitchen.

More pics of the kitchen.  The French doors open to the back deck.

The half bath off the kitchen and then a small desk area in the kitchen.

When you come into the house from the garage, you enter the laundry area.  As you can see, straight ahead from there is the kitchen.  To give you a sense of the orientation, the 1/2 bath is off to the left and the desk area is to the right just past the doorway in the picture below.

I like that there is a window in the laundry room.  Most of the windows in the house have good quality, custom fitted wood blinds, which is nice.  Those suckers are expensive.  I'm glad we don't have to buy them.  It's nice that they are already in place.

The stairs going up to the second floor.

The hallway upstairs is exposed to the lower level.

Looking down from upstairs.

Master bedroom.  Has a vaulted ceiling, which you can't see from this pic.

Master bathroom.  Long and somewhat narrow, but lots of storage.  Much like the laundry room, I like that there is a window in the bathroom.  There is also a skylight.  The tub is jetted.  80's, I know, but I can't lie.  I am looking forward to taking baths in a jetted tub.  If I can't have a hot tub, it may be the next best thing.

Two guest bedrooms upstairs and main bathroom on second floor.

There isn't much yard space in the back, just a little side yard.  There is a huge deck, though, that wraps around the west side of the house.

View of back of house.

The basement is finished.  This is the stairwell going down.

There is a fireplace and wet bar in the basement.  The fireplace in the basement is gas.  The one on the main floor is wood burning.  Nice to have both kinds.

There are 2 other finished areas in the basement and a half bath down there as well.  No pictures of those to post though.

The garage is large and heated.  A dream come true for Scott.  The garage was kind of a mess, so I didn't get pictures of it.  I couldn't resist taking a picture of the heater though. Hot Dawg.

The entire deck area is shaded due to the surrounding trees.  I imagine that makes growing plants difficult.  Clearly this variety of plant likes the shade. What are these?

So, there it is.  What do you think?  Can you get past the dated decor to see potential?  There is plenty of room, especially for guests. Will you come visit?

We are still waiting for the appraisal and need to go back to the seller about a few things that need addressed as a result of the inspection.  We are still hoping this deal closes 2 weeks from today.  The clock is ticking.  Loudly.

And I will ride shotgun with Renee. It's a beautiful place, Julie. Another gorgeous deck just screaming out for a soft chair and a cool drink.
