I've said many times that you can't get a decent haircut in Wisconsin. I was in desperate need, so Scott and I made a day trip to Chicago yesterday so I could get my hair "did" at Vidal Sassoon. Last time we went to Chicago, we took the train in from Elgin. This time, we drove in. A shot as we neared downtown:
Driving into and through downtown Chicago on weekends really isn't too bad. There was some heavy traffic as we approached, but not terrible. Downtown traffic wasn't bad at all. Scott dropped me off right at the door of the salon and then he took off to find a spot to hang out at while he waited for me. Three hours later, with a fresh new cut, I hailed a cab and met Scott here:
By the time I caught up with Scott, it was about 3 PM. First stop, cocktail.
So this is a really cheesy place, right? Right. Super cheesy. But they served up a strong margarita. The only bar seats available were on the patio (thankfully it was enclosed....it was chilly yesterday), so our drinks were served in plastic cups.
We walked around inside the mall at Navy Pier for a bit. The only purchase we made was here. Scott loves these sugar and cinnamon roasted nuts.
After the nut bought his nuts, we stopped in this place. Now, you know I'm going to want to go in here since I love me some goats.
It was kind of an interesting place. The burgers they were grilling (which apparently they call "borgers") smelled good and they were busy, but all they sell is burgers and they let you know it. The employees' shirts and signs everywhere let you know: No fries, no chips. All you are getting in this place is a "cheezborger".
We walked around outside for just a little bit. Most of the fun outdoor stuff was closed for the winter. Scott wanted me to ride on the Ferris wheel with him. As you may know, I am panic-attack afraid of heights. I was able to convince Scott it was too cold to go up on the Ferris wheel, but I promised him I would try it next summer. We'll see.
We eventually ended up at a bar/restaurant named Riva. We first sat at the bar on the ground level. It was a terrible bar set up and it really kind of sucked. They had a mermaid hanging from the ceiling.
It wasn't just a mermaid; it was a mermaid with very large breasts. When the young male bar tender saw me taking a picture, he said to Scott and me, "Here, give me the camera. I can get a picture from the best angle."
Ahem. Why did he think I would want this picture? I'm guessing that kid has taken many a shot from this angle before. Seriously. What a dude (or douche?) thing.
We didn't really care for the bar set up in this place, so after 1 quick drink we were ready to move on. Before we left, I hit the bathroom- which was located upstairs. After handling my business, I went back to Scott and said matter-of-factly, "We're sitting on the wrong floor." So we moved upstairs. Ahhh... much better. This is the upstairs bar area.
We sat at a table in the bar near the windows. Here is the view from where we were sitting.
Absolutely magnificent. And the bar tender mixed up a very nice cocktail. Scott had an Old Fashioned and I had a Flirtini.
That pretty much sums up the day. I got a fresh haircut. We took a drinking tour at Navy Pier. And then back home. It was a really fun day. There is nothing I like better than spending time with my sweet boy Scott, especially when we do little adventures. Life is good.
